Artist Nate Young, exhibiting at the Nemeth Art Center in June and July, and artist/NAC alum (2014 first museum exhibition at the Nemeth Art Center) Caroline Kent, will be offering a one-day workshop for children on Thursday, June 26th.
In this hands-on workshop, young artists will experiment with drawing, shape invention, and painting by working with paper and cardboard to create dynamic 2D and 3D forms. Using drawing as a starting point, participants will cut, combine, and build layered compositions that blur the line between image and object. These playful constructions will serve as imaginative models for larger sculptural or installation ideas. This is an open-ended, experimental activity—so bring your creativity and let your ideas take shape!

Nate Young has exhibited nationally at museums and galleries, including MASS MoCA, MA; The Studio Museum, Harlem; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Visual Arts Center, Richmond, VA; Front Triennial at the Cleveland Institute of Art, and moniquemeloche gallery, Chicago. His work is in the collections of MOCA, Chicago, DePaul Art Museum, Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia, Milwaukee Art Museum, the Walker Art Center, and the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture, Washington, D.C. A co-founder of the experimental gallery The Bindery Projects (Minneapolis, 2011-2016), Young is currently Assistant Professor of Art at University of Illinois at Chicago, and lives and works in Chicago.
